Bandthwidth exceeded - Admin NorskVind
There will be some changes around Meadow 2 to prevent bandthwidth exceeding.
Last month it reached 2200+ GB a month I only have 2000 GB a month or else they charge me $0.50 per GB.
This month it already reached 1800 GB the cost is about $40-50 a day when the bandthwidth is exceeded and this server can't bring up that amount of cash a day.
- Admin SilenT - 22 Nov 2006
Stats and fights are now seperated in fight screen to safe some bandthwidth.
- Admin PugG - 22 Nov 2006
Real simple solution:

Limit the amount of chars you can login to from a given IP. A limit of one char per IP would for sure take care of the bandwidth problem.
- Cop Daniel - 22 Nov 2006
Also, if you still want to limit some more in M2... nerf the market, we don't use it anymore... if somebody wants to sell a charm let them do it in chat heh...
- Admin SilenT - 22 Nov 2006
good idea IP block if a char is already in I'll be implenting this tonite
- Admin Chenalika - 22 Nov 2006
yeah that's a good idea might wanna make that for ALL servers ?
- Cop Daniel - 22 Nov 2006
There's a problem with that SilenT, what about the people who have their HCM title on a different character than the one they click on?
- Admin Chenalika - 22 Nov 2006
yeah he's got a point , than better make 2 chars per ip
- Admin NorskVind - 22 Nov 2006
Two would be perfectly fine :)
- Cop Daniel - 22 Nov 2006
Hmmm, I've got a question SilenT... how much bandwidth do you have per month on say... Xedon/Ysomite/S1/S2/Duel and what not? because those are practically dead servers and don't need much bandwidth per month.
- Admin NorskVind - 22 Nov 2006
Don't forget Tourney, MeGod and MobUnit.
- Cop Sodom - 22 Nov 2006
The fact that a Text based server is using 2200 gigs a month is Crazy to me, wow. haha.

Another thing you can possably do is limit the amount of people who can log in at once, like in major mmorpgs like WoW and Everquest. Certain servers only allow up to like 1000 people, so maybe for m2, you can put the cap at like 50 people or something? I dont know how many people actually play on M2, but I'm assuming its quite alot.
- Admin PugG - 22 Nov 2006
sucky idea that last one
- Cop Daniel - 22 Nov 2006
I'd say take some of the bandwidth usage per month from the dead servers and put more on M2...
- Admin PugG - 22 Nov 2006
same server.. DUH!
- Admin Oropher - 22 Nov 2006
The ip one can cause problems too

There are Internet Providers (such as my old one) that let their users communicate to the web through THEIR proxy - So in my old situation, EVERYONE in my town had the EXACT same Ip
- Cop Daniel - 22 Nov 2006
lmfao... idd... it can still cause problems... and yeah yeah dex... cant help thinking a diff server per game server...
- Admin Coolsonia - 23 Nov 2006
was suggested to me:
nerfing the images could save bandwith... and change the fp star so that its stationary.
- Cop Daniel - 23 Nov 2006
if the FP star is stationary... I want the shiny side =)
- Cop Daniel - 23 Nov 2006
Also, you can get rid of some of the stuff in guide such as: Inventory, Stats, Noble Titles, etc.... Reasoning behind this being, Inventory can be seen in game and we can explain what weapon hand belt feet etc. etc. do...

Stats, again we can explain what stats control which battlefield stat and which goes for a fighter/mage/agi mage.

Noble Titles, we can easily explain what it takes to get into nobility and stay in, as well as the help topic in forums will easily explain all of it.

- Admin Duckula - 23 Nov 2006
mayb also do a downloaded immage packet for all the pictures? so that you dont host them and people dont have to get them that way?
- Cop Daniel - 23 Nov 2006
Suggestion from David tweaked by me:

He says "Change the minimum chat refresh time to 10 seconds"

I say "Make it like evolve coding and make it refresh automatically every 10 seconds"

He says "Add time stamps"

- Admin amakiller - 23 Nov 2006
all these make it like evolve codings on things...might as welll make it evolve coding...
- Admin PugG - 23 Nov 2006
nah, that would require complete char rebuilding heh.
- Admin Oropher - 23 Nov 2006
Might I suggest something more drastic? Why not simply delete some dead servers?
- Admin PugG - 23 Nov 2006
Nobody plays them anyway, so they are not using bandwidth heh.

But yeah, was it up to me i'd delete S1, S2, duel and yosemite - that would also clean up a lot of leftover admins in forums =)
- Admin Oropher - 23 Nov 2006
I would guess that LoL2/LoL3 with their images etc use up more bandwith per player, - why not delete it :P
- Admin SilenT - 23 Nov 2006
the rest of my experiments are crap the hardly get more than 500MB traffic a month.

lordsoflords.com 1492.98 Gig
oneshit.com 693.94 Meg A forum site I had to bring this down.
ninjachef.com 680.23 Meg
megod.com 508.51 Meg
warunit.com 408.95 Meg
the rest is about 100 meg a month.

.....
Usage as of today: 1,832.69 gigabytes
Monthly limit: 2,000 gigabytes

Data transfer is metered on a calendar month basis. Unused bandwidth allocations cannot be carried over from one month to the next. The cost of over-limit usage is $0.50 per GB. This amount will be billed to your account at the beginning of next month.

Ouch lol...the fight button is popular :P
- Admin SilenT - 23 Nov 2006
the fight page must be made allot smaller.

I asked for an upgrade price but.

.....
We now have the ability to sell incremental bandwidth. Bandwidth additions are available at $125/month for 500GB of bandwidth transfer. This service has a 3 month minimum commitment so we will charge the first 3 months when ordered, and then after the 3rd month it will be $125/month unless the service is cancelled
.....

no problem but with that money I can get a better server
current server price is $209.

$300 bucks is
Intel Dual Xeon 3.2 Ghz 2 x 250GB 2 GB 3000GB $299.00
Intel Dual Xeon 3.2 Ghz 2 x 73GB SCSI 2 GB 2500GB $299.00

Dual Xeon 3.2 - 2-250 GB HD - 2 GB RAM - 3000GB Transfer
RedHat Enterprise w/ Cpanel/WHM w/Fantastico

Monthly Fee: $324.00 ($345.38 Texas residents)
Setup Fee: $25.00 ($27.06 Texas residents)
Total Fee: $349.00 ($372.44 Texas residents)

I'll wait a few more months and see if this server is an good option. Maybe after the christmas the things will settle down.
- Admin SilenT - 23 Nov 2006
I will order the 500 extra GB for $125 a month for the 3 month.
- Admin Oropher - 23 Nov 2006
Btw SilenT, the topic I msged you about is called [Devlab]Credits disappearing..SILENT Please READ (oh yes - how subtle)
- Admin PugG - 23 Nov 2006
SilenT, just implement the IP limit and all that won't be necessary.
- Admin SilenT - 24 Nov 2006
/devlab/world.php 15503543 36.56 KB 52 74
this is also causing allot I'll fix all the KS to output a lower traffic.
- Admin SilenT - 24 Nov 2006
The server is already over 1900 GB.
Admins please force this rule only one char login to play or else kick or ban him before I have the chance to implent the one or two char per IP script.
- Admin PugG - 24 Nov 2006
How about just increase the amount freeplay costs?

To like double of what it is now. That should cover your costs.
- Admin PugG - 24 Nov 2006
Oh btw, for each char autoing it takes approximately 20 GB (max) of bandwidth /month.

So if 500 GB costs 125 USD, then 1 USD is 4 GB.

Approximate costs of having one char clicking is thus ~5 USD, which is actually covered by the FP people pay.

But I guess if you want to profit, you need to raise the price of FP.
- Admin SilenT - 24 Nov 2006
Please enforce the rule one char per IP playing this game untill traffic issue is resolved.
Admins now can see in town sorted on ip for all players.
- Admin amakiller - 24 Nov 2006
raise the cost of fp...and raise the minimum amount of credz you can buy :)

- Admin Duckula - 24 Nov 2006
on m1 i cant is it supposed to be that way?
- Admin GreatCornholio - 24 Nov 2006
And just how are we supposed to enforce this? We STILL cannot kick players by name/IP......
- Cop Daniel - 24 Nov 2006
2 chars max per IP... just found out
- Admin NorskVind - 24 Nov 2006
I don't see it in Devlab or Euro. Also, the kick function doesn't really work lol. It just changes the Session ID.
- Admin GreatCornholio - 24 Nov 2006
There's still one IP that has five chars on it, and of course, trying to kick them does about as much as kicking the wall does.
- Cop Daniel - 24 Nov 2006
Kicking does absolutely nothing heh, and as for banning them, I don't think the Admins have IP ban capability... heh
- Admin SilenT - 24 Nov 2006
It seems the lag problem is also less or is it only me.
- Admin Chenalika - 24 Nov 2006
Ellen]yep it is less indeed
- Admin NorskVind - 24 Nov 2006
Appears it has gone down, very much.

We used to get hours and hours, now it's just for a minute or two every so often, which is just fine.
- Admin GreatCornholio - 25 Nov 2006
Hey SilenT, I was just looking at EV1's options ... take a look at this one as well....

Intel Dual Woodcrest 2 x 250GB 2 GB 2500GB $359.00

This would give the game four real processors to run on. Though I think you would probbly want to upgrade to at least 4 gig of RAM too, so I dunno. Perhaps it would be better to build a box and colocate it somewhere.

http://www.cihost.com/products/colocation/family-colocation.php

You could get more bandwidth on their basic package than you are getting now.

Just tossing a couple other options out there.
- Cop Daniel - 25 Nov 2006
hmmm... that looks better heh...
- Admin GreatCornholio - 25 Nov 2006
2 Western Digital Raptor WD740ADFD 74GB 10,000 RPM Serial ATA150 Hard Drive - OEM $319.98
1 TYAN S5370G2NR-RS Dual Socket 771 Intel 5000V SSI CEB Server Motherboard - Retail $319.99
2 Intel Xeon 5060 Dempsey 3.2GHz Socket 771 Active or 1U Processor Model BX805555060A $670.98
1 Antec 4U22EPS550-2 4U Server Case - Retail $235.99
4 Kingston 2GB 240-Pin DDR2 FB-DIMM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) ECC Fully Buffered Server System $1,399.96
1 NEC 18X DVD±R DVD Burner With 12X DVD-RAM Write Black E-IDE / ATAPI Model 7170A-0B - OEM $29.99

Subtotal: $2,976.89

OK so let's look at this ...
$324 a month for a Dual 3.2GHz Xeon
$99 a month for colocation

Saving $225 a month, the server pays for itself just in the cost savings in 13 months, and the server is yours no matter what. Not to mention yo're gonna end up at the end of the day with a server that has got 4x the memory of the EV1 option. Let's look at EV1's option with 8 gig of RAM.

$474 a month for a Dual 3.2GHz Xeon
$99 a month for colocation and built server

Now the savings pays for the server in 8 months instead of 13. Something you should consider IMHO if you can financially do so.
- Admin NorskVind - 25 Nov 2006
Aside from server upgrades, I got another idea.

Everyone will prolly hate it, but raising the click cap could possibly change a lot.
